Anne slipped into the tub, but still, nothing soothed her. The water was warm on her skin, but she did not feel comfortable. She couldn’t feel anything inside but a sourness for her own existence. Her phone vibrated on the tile floor. Anne looked and saw the phone’s screen read mom in all white caps.
She sank deeper into the water. The phone’s vibrations faded. Everywhere she has been, she has left nothing but burnt bridges. She wanted more than anything to be a better daughter for her mother, but she was a constant struggle. Day after day of keeping that “everything is okay” smile on her face.
Her mother had already been through so much. Why would she want to burden her mother with all her problems? The bathroom door burst open, pulling Anne from her train of thought. She flicked her head to see someone dressed in all black. They wore a mask over their entire head. No holes for eyes or a mouth.
